Last Saturday, Orlando City SC announced the transfer of striker Ercan Kara to Samsunspor, a club in the Turkish Süper Lig, the top tier of soccer in Turkey. This decision opens up a discussion about the future of Orlando City and its prospects for the 2023 MLS Cup Playoffs.

Facundo Torres and Martín Ojeda, Orlando City’s other two Designated Players, are now in a prime position to help shape the team’s future. With the possibility of acquiring a top-tier player during the winter transfer window, Orlando City can aspire to compete at the highest level of MLS in 2024.

In terms of standings, Kara’s departure doesn’t seem to have significantly hindered Orlando City.
