Goalkeepers

Tyler Deric – He was the second homegrown player in MLS history way back in 2009. Since then he’s developed into a good shot stopper for Houston. Some injury issues have slowed him down some but when he’s on the field Deric is a better keeper than some who have gained National Team consideration in the past.

Stefan Frei – Frei was called into the most recent January camp but left early and remains one of the most accomplished keepers without a call up. He’s quickly approaching 200 career MLS appearances and is only behind Nick Rimando in several categories among career leaders in MLS.

Tim Melia – The brick wall in Kansas City hasn’t gotten much National Team attention, but if he was just five years younger he would be one of the hottest commodities in the league. The guy leads the league in GAA and shutouts this year, what else does a guy have to do?

Zack Steffen – Just 23 years old and easily the youngest keeper on the list, Steffen came over after a couple years in Germany and has been a model of consistency for the Columbus Crew. He’s had plenty of chances with the U.S. Youth teams, but has yet to break through with the senior team.
