Who are the best players in the league who haven’t made their national team debut?

In its short history, MLS has been a huge key for the U.S. National team. Players have grown and developed from unexperienced players to key USMNT contributors. Now that the league is as big and competitive as it’s ever been, the list of players who haven’t quite broken through to the national team is as long as ever.

Some of the players on this list could have the chance to break through this summer in the Gold Cup. Four of the 16 players listed are on the preliminary roster (no spoilers as to who they are.) Another group have featured on various youth teams and just returned from the U-20 World Cup so they will likely get their opportunities sooner rather than later.

For this exercise, four keepers, defenders, midfielders, and forwards were picked. Only players with no senior team caps were picked. Several players not on the list have just a couple of caps. Not all of these players will make a roster in their careers, but this group of players could make for a pretty solid squad.
