In this MLS Multiplex exclusive series, we analyze the Columbus Crew SC on a weekly basis and assign them a letter grade each week. How did the Crew do in week six?
Previous Report Cards:
- Week 1 – Chicago Fire
- Week 2 – Houston Dynamo
- Week 3 – DC United
- Week 4 – Portland Timbers
- Week 5 – Orlando City SC
All good things must come to an end.
With the Columbus Crew-Lite lineup, minus Higuain, Mensah, and Afful, the Crew SC were fighting with their backs against the wall against the Chicago Fire and the addition of Bastian Schweinsteiger.
After a hard fought loss in Bridgeview, the Black & Gold are still holding on at the top of the Eastern Conference thanks to their extra match played during International Week.
The three match winning streak may have come to an end, but there shouldn’t be any cause for alarm in Columbus just yet. Even without three of the more dynamic players on the pitch, the Crew still fought a good fight against the Fire, and Higuain will be back at home against Toronto. Hopefully, we’ll hear some good news concerning Mensah and Afful soon as well; however, the Crew defense isn’t looking awful thanks to some decent defensive roster depth this season.
With that being said, let’s take a look the Crew SC’s grade for Week 6.
