The World Cup is starting to see teams playing their second group match. This was the case for the Czech Republic and South Africa, and Switzerland against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

With Switzerland’s recent victory, Canada must defeat Qatar to climb into the second or first place of Group B. However, Jesse Marsch has to put its best players in the starting lineup to secure a tough win against a solid defensive team.

Nevertheless, fans are wondering whether Alphonso Davies will play in the second group match.

Is Alphonso Davies playing tonight against Qatar?

The right back has been dealing with an injury since the first leg of the Champions League semifinals against PSG, which prevented him from taking part in his national team's World Cup opener.

However, Marsch confirmed during a recent press conference that Davies has recovered from his injury and is available for tonight's encounter. Despite this great news, Canada’s manager could opt to put him on the bench and not risk him from the first minute.

Well, according to the recent post from the CanMNT’s official X account, the lineups are confirmed, and Alphonso Davies will be on the bench against Qatar.

The official lineup is: Luc De Fougerolles; Maxime Crépeau, Richie Laryea, Derek Cornelius, Alistair Johnston; Ali Ahmed, Ismaël Koné, Stephen Eustáquio; Tajon Buchanan, Cyle Larin, Jonathan David.

This was exactly the kind of news Canadian fans needed to hear, as their match against Bosnia could have unfolded very differently with the former Vancouver Whitecaps star on the field.

During the closing stages of the game, the pace and energy the Bayern Munich player provided could have been the extra spark Canada needed to break the deadlock.

Canada is betting on this game to surpass the group stage and achieve an enormous milestone for the country. A good stat is that the CanMNT won its last four friendly matches played at BC Place Stadium.
