The World Cup has reached both its most exciting and its saddest stage. Legends such as Luka Modrić and Neymar Jr. have already been eliminated from the tournament, while others like Cristiano Ronaldo and Kylian Mbappé are still in the race.
Meanwhile, Lionel Messi and the USMNT still have to play their respective matches to find out whether they will advance.
On the other hand, the MLS is still running its transfer market, coming up with a new signing every hour. Recently, Real Salt Lake rejected an offer for Diego Luna because it was insufficient.
Now, the same team sold one of their midfielders to Toronto FC.
Toronto FC acquires Nelson Palacio from Real Salt Lake
This Monday, Toronto FC completed a trade with Real Salt Lake to sign midfielder Nelson Palacio in an attempt to climb out of the lower part of the Eastern Conference.
After the club’s altercation with Italian star Insigne, the team has not shown security across the pitch. This signing is a bet on strengthening the squad and recovering the solidity it once had.
The official statement by the MLS implied:
“Toronto FC acquired midfielder Nelson Palacio from Real Salt Lake on Monday. In exchange for the 25-year-old Colombian, RSL received $1.1 million, with up to an additional $550,000 in conditional cash if certain performance-based metrics are met. The Utah club will also retain a sell-on percentage if Palacio is traded or transferred in the future.”
Nelson Palacio joined RSL in 2023 after his time with Atletico Nacional, a Colombian team. During his three years at the MLS club, the Colombian midfielder played 55 games, scoring two goals and delivering two assists.
Additionally, he spent the 2025 season on loan with Swiss side FC Zurich, making 34 appearances and providing one assist, though he did not score any goals.
