Sports Illustrated recently collated their 2024 SI Power List. The list aims to spotlight the 50 most influential figures in sports. Among the prestigious list, Lionel Messi is seen flying the MLS flag high and proud.

Included in the SI Power List for 2024 is, unsurprisingly, Lionel Messi. The Inter Miami star has ensured MLS went from strength to strength since he made the leap from European football to American soccer.

As noted by Sports Illustrated, Lionel Messi's incredible $20.4 million salary beats every MLS club's payroll, except for three sides. It is hard to say he hasn't earned his bumper contract, though.

Lionel Messi is the greatest soccer player of all-time. This was debated for many years while he played in Europe but guiding Argentina to the World Cup established his position at the top of the hierarchy.

Admittedly, the Herons are treating Messi with extra care currently. This is understandable, given his age and the injury he sustained at the Copa America finals.

Yet, Lionel Messi should take great confidence from being involved in the 2024 SI Power List. As the only MLS representative, his position on the pedestal is clear as day.
