CF Montréal has made a bold move by bringing in the 20-year-old Polish player from SPAL, an Italian Serie C team. But don’t be fooled by the league he’s coming from.
Ever since Laurent Courtois took over as head coach of CF Montréal, the team has shown a clear desire to reinvent itself. Nothing symbolizes this renewal more than Bugaj’s arrival. The young player already has an impressive resume for his age. With stints in SPAL's youth teams, a loan to Lechia Gdansk in Poland, and time in Molde FK’s academy in Norway, Bugaj brings a diverse background and experience that go beyond his young years.

CF Montréal President and CEO Gabriel Gervais didn’t hide his excitement when announcing the signing. “We’re thrilled to add Dawid to our roster,” Gervais stated. “Despite his young age, he already shows impressive defensive maturity. He’s a high-potential player who adds depth to our right-back position.” And it’s no wonder. With 4 goals and 13 assists in 97 appearances for SPAL's youth teams and during his loan at Lechia Gdansk, Bugaj has already proven he can excel both defensively and offensively.
Montréal's defense, which was already strengthening with the addition of English left-back Tom Pearce from Wigan Athletic, now gets even stronger. Bugaj and Pearce together have the potential to create a robust and versatile defensive line.
But what truly sets Bugaj apart isn’t just his stats or his experience with various clubs. It’s his ability to adapt and evolve. At every club he’s been with, he has shown a rare talent for quickly understanding the game and adjusting to the team’s needs.
Looking at CF Montréal’s current 10th place position in the Eastern Conference standings, it’s clear there’s room for improvement. And Bugaj might just be the key piece for that transformation.
