The dreams of Austin FC were temporarily shattered by the commanding performance of the Colorado Rapids. In a match that promised to be a true spectacle, Verde & Black fans watched helplessly as their team fell 2-0, facing an opponent who seemed to be in a state of grace.

From the early minutes, it was clear that the night wouldn't be easy for Austin FC. Brad Stuver, Austin's reliable goalkeeper, made an impressive save in the third minute, preventing an even more catastrophic start. Colorado's relentless pressure soon paid off. In the 22nd minute, Cole Bassett found the back of the net after a precise assist from Omir Fernández.

As the first half drew to a close, Colorado Rapids nearly extended their lead. Once again, Brad Stuver prevented further damage with a monumental save at the 41st minute, keeping the score at 1-0. Austin's team entered halftime hoping to reverse the situation, knowing they needed to adjust their strategy to contain Rapids' relentless offense.

The start of the second half brought renewed energy for Austin FC, but this hope was quickly crushed. Rafael Navarro, showing the cunning and precision of an elite striker, scored Rapids' second goal at the 49th minute, this time without an assist, just pure talent and opportunity. With the score at 2-0, Austin FC faced an increasingly steep mountain to climb.

One of the most controversial moments of the night came in the 59th minute, when a long-distance shot from Sebastian Driussi seemingly struck the hand of defender Lalas Abubakar inside the penalty area. Austin's fans and players eagerly awaited a penalty call that could change the game's dynamics, but referee Malik Badawi decided not to award the penalty, sparking vehement protests from Austin FC's side.

They will return to Austin, where they will face LAFC on Wednesday, June 19th.
