The quarterfinals of the biggest tournament in football are just around the corner. Even though almost every remaining team is European, with only Morocco and Argentina left to represent the rest of the world, MLS is more alive than ever in the tournament's final stage.

Yep, that’s right. With the recent win of Argentina over Egypt, an incredible match that, if you haven’t seen it, go and watch it, only two active MLS players are remaining in the World Cup.

Lionel Messi and Rodrigo De Paul are the MLS's last hope

With their 3-2 victory over Egypt, Lionel Messi and Rodrigo De Paul (Inter Miami in the house) remain the only active MLS players still standing in the World Cup.

With the recent elimination from Colombia, at the hands of a surprising Switzerland, the other player that could add to this statistic was Minnesota United midfielder James Rodriguez.

However, as we all saw in that game, the Cafeteros lost during the penalty kicks.

So yes, in the end, out of the 45 players called up to the World Cup who are on MLS clubs, only two of them remain in the tournament.

That said, the level shown by the players from our league deserves an outstanding grade. Several national teams reached stages they had never reached before, and, in part, it was due to the MLS footballers.

Now, the dream remains with the Argentine national team, which will battle against a surprising Switzerland. Let’s cheer for our fellow South American buddies.

In addition, when the Round of 32 and Round of 16 were played, MLS became the fifth league with the most players at this stage.

However, in the blink of an eye, all of those teams disappeared. Although this might seem like a negative aspect, it gives US fans a reason to watch and be involved with their local clubs.

Spread love to the MLS, so in the 2030 World Cup, the USMNT will have a wonderful team.
