In a league that has Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets, you'd be forgiven for not keeping many eyes on Son Heung-min. However, the Tottenham export has gone from strength to strength in LAFC colors, and now, the whole world is forced to stop and admire him.
In his first seven MLS games, Son Heung-min has returned an impressive six goals and two assists. That's over one goal involvement per game, and there's only been two games (well, one and a half if you consider his debut was a cameo) in which Son hasn't been involved in a goal.
Incredible, odds-defying, and exciting to watch; MLS fans should have seen the signs before he joined.
See, Son Heung-min left Tottenham when he still had a lot to give. He was never pushed out by Tottenham, and he left after making them champions of Europe (the Europa League).
Despite LAFC not being his first choice, he was persuaded to join, and now no party involved in the deal looks back with any anger... Except Tottenham, probably.
It only took 7 MLS games for Son to make Tottenham regret everything
While it's great to see a club legend living it up in a new continent and getting the appreciation he deserves, it will be a bittersweet feeling for Tottenham fans. Sonny gave everything to Spurs, and now he's another player they have to watch thrive in a new club.
Alongside Son, his old friend Harry Kane is in the form of his life at Bayern Munich. Kane is obviously among the goals, as he always was. With both players upping their game since leaving Spurs, it begs a very vulgar question for Spurs fans: Is leaving Spurs the way forward?
Well, probably not. That's a bit of a reach when you dig into the context a little more. While nobody can deny that it doesn't look good for Tottenham at face value, MLS is obviously a dip in quality compared to the English Premier League.
MLS is improving, and players like Son are helping MLS to do that. However, he did come at a cost for one team - Spurs.
He also came at a financial cost for LAFC, the most expensive MLS transfer of all-time to be precise, but he's already paying back that fee in dividends. Long may his impressive career continue, it couldn't happen to a more likeable player.
