With the World Cup on the rise, many big clubs are watching the international tournament in search of their next hidden gem. It is very common for clubs like Real Madrid or FC Barcelona, among others, to sign players after their World Cup performances.
The same thing happened to Neymar Jr and FC Barcelona in 2014. Now, the Spanish club has set its eyes on the next big name in football.
This youngster plays for the Colorado Rapids, and he’s been a crucial piece in the team’s recent success during the first half of the regular season.

FC Barcelona is always looking for its next superstar. Today is Lamine Yamal on the offense, but the Cules want to get ahead of the competition, as Herrington is set to be the next defensive superstar.
His profile is that of a modern defender. A good passer and technician, capable of managing the situations under stress, but also being aggressive when he has to, without losing his mind and getting a card.
Despite his young age, he already has experience at the highest level. By the age of 16, he had become a regular starter for Brisbane Roar in his native Australia, and this season, he has established himself as an undisputed starter for the Colorado Rapids.
The Australian prospect has a contract with the Rapids through the 2029 season. Nevertheless, if a concrete offer is on the table, the MLS club's asking price will round to $25 million.
At the World Cup, Lucas Herrington will have the opportunity to showcase his talent on the global stage, going against players such as Christian Pulisic, Arda Guler, and Miguel Almiron.
