When will Inter Miami face Cruz Azul for the Champions Cup?
First of all, it is appropriate that we explain what the Champions Cup is and why only Inter Miami and Cruz Azul played it.
The Champions Cup is a winner-take-all, single-match showdown between the reigning MLS Cup champion, Inter Miami CF, and the reigning Liga MX champion.
This edition will be played at Nu Stadium, home of the Herons. While the official kickoff time has yet to be announced, the match date is already confirmed.
Inter Miami’s clash against Cruz Azul will take place on Wednesday, September 16th. Over the last seven editions of the Campeones Cup, Liga MX clubs have won four times, while MLS sides have claimed the trophy on three occasions.
Toluca FC won the most recent edition, defeating the LA Galaxy 3-2 in 2025.
Many of you, Heron fans, will remember the last time your team faced the Mexican squad. It was Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets’ official debut with Inter Miami.
Not only did they make their debut, but the GOAT broke the 1-1 tie with a magnificent free-kick to give Inter Miami the victory, starting Messi’s goal-scoring era at Miami.
It will be exciting to see another final with Lionel Messi in it, but also because it puts the MLS higher in the rivalry with the Liga MX.
