During last Saturday's match between Inter Miami and CF Montréal, one of the Herons' forwards took a heavy blow to his back that left him collapsed on the ground.
The Mexican striker, Germán Berterame, rapidly received medical attention. Even though the situation was resolved, it's never easy to shake the image of a striker lying motionless on the pitch.
Fortunately, after the final whistle, Inter Miami head coach Ángel Guillermo Hoyos reassured everyone by providing an update on the player's condition.
Guillermo Hoyos provided updates on Berterame's situation
The incident occurred in the 69th minute when Berterame challenged for a cross inside the penalty area and collided with Efrain Morales, one of Montreal’s defenders.
The Mexican international collapsed to the turf, prompting immediate calls for medical assistance from players on both sides.
After receiving treatment, Berterame was placed on a stretcher and taken off the field. In his post-match press conference, Guillermo Hoyos explained the situation involving the Mexican striker and reassured everyone in the soccer community.
“Berterame is conscious and doing well. The blow was very hard, but he is recovering.” Guillermo Hoyos also confirmed that the player’s family has been informed about the situation of the 27-year-old.
“His family has been informed of everything. We didn’t know what to do; it was a very desperate situation.”
After the match, Luis Suarez sent a strong message in support of his teammate through social media:
“We’re with you,” stated the Pistolero.
Without Lionel Messi in the picture for at least one more week, Inter Miami lost another crucial player for their lineup.
This season, the former CF Monterrey played 19 games, recording seven goals and four assists fro the Herons.
Currently, the Herons are in second place, trailing Nashville SC, who lead the Eastern Conference, by just two points.
