Even though we have the beggining of the World Cup in two weeks, or the transfer market surrounds Europe’s biggest club, Inter Miami is still a media spot for every reason.
Recently, Fabrizio Romano made official the report about Guillermo Hoyos contract extension with Inter Miami until the end of the season.
Although he started as an assistant manager, the Herons view him as a possible long-term head coach after his start of the season.
That said, could his extension come in handy with an influence from Inter Miami’s captain, Lionel Messi?
Lionel Messi’s performance may have helped Hoyos.
Guillermo Hoyos started his season in charge of Inter Miami with a record for the club: six wins, one draw, and one defeat, leaving the club in second position of the Eastern Conference.
Alongside these statistics, Lionel Messi has been commanding this team's offense as he has never done with any manager.
Yes, the Argentine legend stats are not the best, but the difference is seen on the field. When Inter Miami were down on the scoreboard, Messi took charge and scored or assisted his teammates.
Still, that is something we see Messi do regularly, right? Well, the distinction comes outside the field and the player’s relationship with his manager.
During Hoyo’s time as head coach, the Argentine star missed one press conference after the defeat against Orlando City.
Instead of throwing him under the bus or ignoring the obvious question, Hoyos defended Messi’s reason for missing that conference, building momentum with the Argentine.
Also, it wouldn’t seem odd to think that Hoyos was extended because Lionel Messi is happy on the field and with the manager’s scheme, something that, in the end, didn’t happen with Javier Mascherano.
Adding that Hoyos understands when to give Messi a rest and when to push him, something that didn’t occur before.
All that remains is to connect the dots and realize that Messi's outstanding form and immense influence within the club were more than enough reasons for Inter Miami to stick with the Mexican coach.
