Even though we don’t have an MLS Matchday because it’s Leagues Cup night, the transfer window doesn’t stop in Major League Soccer. Over the last couple of weeks, we discussed Atlanta United’s signings as they try to reverse their horrible situation in the Eastern Conference.
Well, the Five Stripes have acquired a brilliant striker who everyone will remember from his World Cup performance.
If I say that this striker simulated a foul, which led to him being sent off, against Argentina in a match they practically had wrapped up to qualify for the semifinals of the international tournament.
Yes, the European striker arriving in Atlanta is Breel Embolo, a former Stade Rennais and AS Monaco player.

A few weeks ago at MLS Multiplex, we discussed how the Swiss striker had put a roadblock in the way of his move to MLS because he wanted to stay in Europe.
However, timing and circumstances in soccer are different from anything else, as from one moment to the next, Embolo gave the green light to his transfer to Atlanta United.
Breel Embolo’s fee will be around $18 million, making it one of the top five most expensive transfers in MLS. The striker will sign as a Designated Player.
According to the official webpage from Atlanta United:
“Atlanta United today announced it has signed forward Breel Embolo from Stade Rennais to a contract through the 2029-30 season. Embolo will occupy Designated Player and international roster spots pending the receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and P-1 Visa.”
What can really be questioned about this signing? Previously, we discussed how CF Montreal didn't make the right decision by bringing in Alexis Sánchez as a DP; however, this case is different.
What the Five Stripes did is completely right. They signed a striker who can help Tata Martino's team climb out of the bottom of the Eastern Conference and bring a different energy to the squad.
Everyone saw his World Cup performance. The Swiss striker is a beast who will compete with ease in the MLS.
Setting aside his costly mistake against Argentina that cost Switzerland from reaching the semifinals, Embolo has consistently shown his decisiveness in the box and elite ability to link up with teammates. Pairing him with Miguel Almirón offers Atlanta United an exciting new blueprint for success.
Tata Martino needs all the help he can get, and Embolo has 380 professional appearances, recording 100 goals and 66 assists while playing in Switzerland, Germany, and France.
Adding the fact that he is 29 years-old, yes, he has less than 30 - it is a brilliant age to bring a player, because you can have him for a long period of time, and it can give you so much, considering his current form.
The truth is that Atlanta United made the right decision; with the right amount, they did everything right to sign a killer in the box.
