Christen Press is back with Angel City FC. The star veteran forward, who since the infancy of the club was the face of the franchise, has re-signed for one more season through 2025. It's been quite an uphill climb for Press, the first player signed by Angel City, since her serious knee injury in 2022. The torn ACL kept her off the field for two years. Her return in July 2024 was an emotional moment not only for fans but also for Press herself, who tackled the long recovery process with the determination of a true champion.

Press emphasizes what it means for her to wear the Angel City jersey with words about her connection to Los Angeles: "LA, it's always been you. The strength and resilience of this city inspire me, and I couldn't be prouder to represent LA-my hometown-when I step on the field this season.".

The contribution she has made goes beyond the scores. On and off the field, Press is a role model to young aspiring players, epitomizing the core values: commitment to community, excellence in sports, and inclusivity that Angel City promotes.

Stats that speak volumes

The numbers for Press say it all: 24 games played since the founding of Angel City, five goals scored, and one assist. She was especially crucial against North Carolina Courage, where she scored a last-minute goal in her 100th NWSL regular season game. That made her the 10th player in league history to score in their 100th regular season match.

In all, her NWSL career is remarkable: 112 games, 51 goals, and 11 assists in over 9,000 minutes of play. Internationally, her legacy is even greater. Press is a two-time World Cup champion and Olympic bronze medalist, with 64 goals and 43 assists in 155 appearances for the USWNT. It's a résumé that cements her place among the sport's all-time greats.

The importance of her return

Press's contract renewal isn't about on-field performance alone. Mark Parsons, the sporting director at Angel City, underlined her critical role within the team environment: "Her determination to return after two years away is incredible. She plays an essential role both on and off the field.".

Her return strengthens the team's attack, but more importantly, she brings experience and leadership to a group eager to push further in the NWSL. Having missed out on the playoffs in 2024, Angel City is ready for a rebuild up the ladder of competitiveness. Leadership from Press should be important to the team while navigating another testing season. She can execute under pressure and always shows up in big moments. This adds that balance to the roster filled with emerging talents, combined with the mature veterans.
