The German forward is ready to jump to MLS in January, but his club hasn’t decided if they’ll accept the offer yet

At 25, Aaron Opoku, the Kaiserslautern attacker, seems to be aiming for something bigger, or maybe just something different. The thing is, he’s already got a verbal agreement with St. Louis City SC and looks ready to pack his bags for the United States. The problem? Kaiserslautern hasn’t decided if they’re letting him go yet.

And, in this case, it’s not really up to Opoku, even though he’s made it crystal clear he’d love to trade the cold German winters for the warmth of a city that’s on the rise in American soccer.

Founded just a few years ago, St. Louis City SC has already become one of MLS's rising stars. This isn’t a club that’s happy to just show up, they want to compete head-to-head with giants like LAFC and Inter Miami. Signing someone like Opoku would be a strategic move.

On the flip side, you’ve got Kaiserslautern, a club with a rich history but one that’s been struggling to find its former glory. So, what’s the play here? Do they let a player like Opoku go, or do they hold on to him, even though it’s clear he’s itching for a change?

This kind of situation is always tricky. If they decide to sell, Kaiserslautern will likely pocket a decent chunk of cash, and let’s be real, Bundesliga 2 teams aren’t exactly swimming in money. But, at the same time, letting Opoku leave means losing a player who, while not a superstar, could still be valuable for the season.

Opoku has made no secret of how badly he wants to join St. Louis City SC. For him, MLS represents a golden opportunity: a chance to elevate his career, dive into a new culture, and maybe become a key player for a team that’s building its identity from the ground up.

And St. Louis City SC doesn’t look like the type of club that backs down easily. They know what they want, and it seems like they’ve already won Opoku over. Now, the only thing left is convincing Kaiserslautern. If everything falls into place, January could be the start of an exciting new chapter in the German forward’s career, and St. Louis City SC might just have found the missing piece for their next season.
