Orlando City SC announces Javier Carrillo as the Club’s Academy Director after 7 months as interim
On Monday (12), in an official statement, Orlando City SC officially confirmed Javier Carillo as the new Club’s Academy Director. Javier had been in the role since January 2023 when he assumed the position on an interim basis. As Academy Director, he will directly report to the Club’s EVP of Soccer Operations and General Manager, Luiz Muzzi. Carillo’s main challenge will be to develop Orlando City B, Orlando City Academy, and Orlando City SC teams.
Javier Carillo joined the club in 2019 as the Assistant Academy Director while also coaching the U-17 team in Florida. Under his management, the youth teams achieved their first title in 2021.
“Javier has been a key part of the success of our Academy these last few years and we’re excited to see him take this next step in his professional career. The growth of our development pathway is imperative to the long-term success of our Club and we cannot wait to see the new heights our Academy will reach under Javier’s leadership”, said Luiz Muzzi.
“I am thrilled to take on this role with the Club as its Academy Director. I feel as though my time and experience working throughout the state of Florida has prepared me greatly for this role and I’m excited for the challenge. I believe the growth these last few years has been tremendous for the Club, but we still have a lot of room to continue that growth. The investment in our Academy from our ownership group and the Wilf Family has been incredible, and I look forward to leading this group and seeing all that we can accomplish”, said Javier Carillo.
Former USSDA Weston FC, Carillo has developed three players during his time at the Orlando City Academy who are currently part of the professional team. They are: Alex Freeman, Thomas Williams, and Favian Loyola.
