Ricardo Pepi signs extension

Fresh off a weekend where he scored a hattrick, FC Dallas striker Ricardo Pepi made another splash in signing a five-year extension with the MLS club. The move to re-up with FC Dallas comes amid rumors of interest from European sides in the young attacker.

The 18-year old Pepi has emerged as perhaps the most talented young striker in MLS. Saturday night’s three goals in a 4-0 win over the LA Galaxy underscores his immense talent and potential.

On Tuesday afternoon, Pepi joined ‘Counter Attack’ on Sirius XM to discuss his contract as well as his weekend exploits with FC Dallas.

“Yeah, I’d rather try to make goals you know to try and reach you target, I try to make them close. I try to make them, you know, acceptable, I try to make them where they’re, they’re reachable. I obviously don’t want to be like ‘Oh I think I’m going to score 4-500 goals a season,” Pepi said in his interview with Sirius XM. “You know, like I’d say 10 goals a season, especially they would be ideal for me at this point. Yeah, I’m one of those people that was working towards the goal.”

If that’s the case, then Pepi is certainly closing in on that goal and might reach (or exceed it) by this weekend at the rate he is going.

In 14 matches this year, his third season in MLS, Pepi has eight goals. He now has 10 goals and an assist in 38 matches played (13 starts) across his MLS career.

He is the latest product of an FC Dallas Academy that might be the best in MLS and North America in developing talent.

In addition to his play in MLS, he also has six goals in 17 appearances for United States with the U17 national team. Pepi is eligible to play for Mexico in addition to the United States.

‘Counter Attack’ is a daily afternoon show on Sirius XM, hosted by the likes of Tony Meola and Brian Dunseth. The show focuses on American soccer and MLS in addition to the international game.

Andrew Williams, not the former Jamaican international, is the producer of the show.
