FC Dallas makes, Serie A takes.

Rumored for over a week, Tanner Tessmann is now officially headed to recently promoted Serie A side Venezia. The FC Dallas midfielder follows in the steps of former teammate Bryan Reynolds, who signed with Roma this past offseason.

Tessmann, a midfielder set to turn 20-years old this September, has made seven appearances with six starts this season for FC Dallas. Now in his second season in MLS, Tessmann has played 1,453 minutes with 26 games played and 15 starts.

He has yet to score a professional goal but does have an assist. A central midfielder, Tessmann can play as a No. 8, shuttling the ball from box-to-box or as a deep-lying destroyer.

The young midfielder has already seen time with the United States national team, earning a cap in February when he started and went 78 minutes in a friendly win over Trinidad & Tobago. He’s also seen time with the United States U23 national team, earning three appearances for the team in their failed qualification for this summer’s Olympics.

In a statement released by the club, Tessmann thanked FC Dallas as well as the team’s fanbase saying that “I’m forever grateful to y’all and I love y’all.”

Out of high school, Tessmann signed up to play college soccer and football at Clemson. He ended up signing a ‘Homegrown’ deal with FC Dallas instead of pursuing college athletics.

FC Dallas continues to develop talent

The Texas club has always been a team that is focused on developing young talent, but their recent success at moving players to top European sides is unequalled in MLS.

Tessmann is now the latest success story from an academy set-up that has turned FC Dallas into not just one of the top producers of talent in MLS but also in the Americas. Chris Richards success in the Bundesliga with Hoffenheim (on loan from Bayern Munich) as well as the transfer of Reggie Cannon to Boavista (Portugal) and Justin Che’s recent transfer to Bayern Munich underscores the impact FC Dallas is having on the United States national team’s talent pool.

Add in Reynolds move to Roma and now Tessmann and there is no denying that this team is at the top of the pecking order for academy development and exporting of players to top European leagues.

Perhaps only the New York Red Bulls, who have developed the likes of Matt Miazga, Tyler Adams and Caden Clark can boast similar success stories to what FC Dallas has accomplished in recent years.
