USMNT abroad: McKennie, Sargent, Adams score in goal filled weekend

It was a great weekend for multiple USMNT players in Europe. Weston McKennie scored his third Serie A goal for Juventus in a 2-0 victory over Bologna. The midfielder headed home a goal in the 71st minute to register an important insurance goal for Juventus en route to their 10th win of the Serie A season. McKennie was very active in this match offensively as he recorded a total of five shots, two of which were on target.

In Germany, three USMNT players found the back of the net in the Bundesliga and 2 Bundesliga action. Josh Sargent scored his first goal for Werder Bremen since Matchday Seven against Eintracht Frankfurt. The striker unleashed a powerful shot past the Hertha Berlin goalkeeper in Bremen’s 4-1 victory. Sargent now has two goals and two assists in 17 Bundesliga appearances.

Tyler Adams scored for RB Leipzig in their shocking 3-2 defeat to Mainz. The USMNT player scored Leipzig’s first goal of the match in the 15th minute. This goal was Adams’ first of the 2020/21 Bundesliga season. Julian Green of Greuther Furth was the other USMNT goal scorer. He scored in Greuther Furth’s 3-3 draw with Alfredo Morales and Fortuna Düsseldorf.

FA Cup action

There were a few appearances from USMNT players in the Fourth Round of the FA Cup. Zack Steffen started in net for Manchester City against Cheltenham Town. The goalkeeper made one save in the 3-1 victory for Manchester City.

Christian Pulisic received 70 minutes of playing time for Chelsea in their 3-1 win over Luton Town. Pulisic finished with four shots, one key pass, and one tackle. Lastly, Tim Ream played the entire match for Fulham in their 3-0 loss to Burnley. Ream finished with four clearances, two interceptions, and one tackle.

In Belgium, center backs Matt Miazga and Mark McKenzie made appearances for their respective clubs. Miazga had three clearances, three interceptions, and two blocked shots in Anderlecht’s scoreless draw with Waasland-Beveren.

McKenzie registered eight clearances and one blocked shot in Genk’s 3-2 defeat to Club Brugge.

John Brooks played all 90 minutes in Wolfsburg’s massive 1-0 clean sheet victory over Bayer Leverkusen. Brooks recorded four tackles, three interceptions, and one block in the win.

On the same day in Germany, Giovanni Reyna entered in the second half as a substitute for Borussia Dortmund in their 4-2 defeat to Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Reyna had two shot-creating actions and completed 70% of his passes. Elsewhere in Germany, Matthew Hoppe was in the starting 11 for Schalke against Bayern Munich. Hoppe had just 23 touches and registered no shots during his 71 minutes on the pitch.

Brenden Aaronson made his debut for Red Bull Salzburg in the Austrian Bundesliga. The former Philadelphia Union player entered in the 62nd minute and registered one shot in the 2-0 win for Salzburg over Altach. Fellow USMNT midfielder Yunus Musah played 78 minutes in Valencia’s 3-1 defeat to Atletico Madrid. He completed 87% of his passes and registered two dribbles.
