Seattle Sounders: Jordan Morris loan to Swansea City is another exciting move

The Seattle Sounders are sending Jordan Morris to Wales for a loan stint with Swansea City for the remainder of their 2020/21 campaign. This loan move has the potential to be a permanent one as there is an option to buy included in the details of the loan. Swansea City acquires Morris as they enter the second half of the EFL Championship season. The Swans have emerged as a contender for promotion to the Premier League and Morris has the opportunity to be part of a major accomplishment for the club.

Another MLS talent heads overseas

Morris is one of the latest Major League Soccer players to head to Europe. The 26-year-old joins other players such as Brenden Aaronson, Mark McKenzie, and Joe Scally to make the move overseas during the January transfer window. MLS has seen an uptick in talent heading to Europe and Morris could become one of the growing numbers of success stories of MLS players performing well overseas.

This wasn’t the first time in Morris’ career that he had interest from European clubs. The American forward had been sought after by Bundesliga club Werder Bremen in 2016.

However, he elected to remain in the United States and became a key member of the Seattle Sounders. He’s gone on to have a very successful career with the Sounders which has included two MLS Cup titles.

A deserving opportunity

Morris has performed very well over the years in MLS. In his five-season career at Seattle, three of the five seasons have seen him score 10 goals or more.

His most recent 2020 campaign numbers were very impressive as he registered 10 goals and a career-high eight assists during the regular season. According to Football Reference, Morris registered his highest goals per 90 minutes of his career with 0.52 goals per 90 minutes played during the 2020 MLS season.

The consistent hard work and goal-scoring contributions from Morris make this a deserved move to Swansea. Throughout his years in MLS, Morris has proven to be one of the top offensive players in the league and now he gets his opportunity to show he can perform at a high level in a very competitive league.

There’s even a possibility that Morris could be playing in the Premier League next season if all goes well for Swansea in their fight for promotion to the English top flight. This has the potential to be a fantastic move for Morris in his career.
