Mesut Ozil is being eyed by multiple MLS clubs
Mesut Özil will not return to Arsenal’s first-team in January to further fuel speculation of a switch to MLS. The Germany international has been frozen out by the Premier League giants and looks to have played his last game for them. He is weighing up his next move and has interest from America, with DC United, LA Galaxy and Inter Miami all credited as potential destinations for him, as per a report by Inews.
Özil, who is 32 years old, is weighing up his next career move as he eyes an escape route from Arsenal. He is also believed to have options from clubs in Italy, Qatar, Germany and Turkey, but a switch to America is attractive to him from a commercial point of view. Özil has been with Arsenal for the past eight years and has scored 44 goals in 252 appearances for the London club.
DC United are in the hunt for a new star as they look to bounce back from not getting into the playoffs last year. Their last big player was Wayne Rooney and they have identified Özil as someone to boost their roster in 2021.
LA Galaxy are set to lose key man Cristian Pavon in the post-season, as he is poised to return to parent club Boca Juniors. His departure would leave a void in Galaxy’s squad and Özil would be an ideal candidate to fill it. They have attracted big names such as David Beckham, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and Javier Hernandez to LA in the past.
Inter Miami are also expecting a busy few months ahead and could throw their name into the hat for Özil. The Herons already have Blaise Matuidi and Gonzalo Higuain amongst their ranks and may look to sign another star. Chelsea’s Olivier Giroud has been linked, but could they go for Özil?
