Sam Mewis

Sam Mewis came into this World Cup presumably starting on the bench for the USWNT. But an injury to Becky  Sauerbrunn opened up the chance of a lifetime for Mewis to make her World Cup debut. And she made it count. In the 13-0 win over Thailand, Mewis scored two goals and notched two assists to make a childhood dream come true for the Tower of Power.

Mewis would then join Dunn on the bench against Chile to prepare for the upcoming match against Sweden for the top spot in Group F. She returned against Sweden and reminded us what she is capable of doing. The midfielder was a force throughout, attacking and defending with real pace and power and even earned an assist off a corner kick in the third minute.

Her debut World Cup lives to see another day as her incredible form has helped bring the United States once again out of group play.
