World Cup: A North Carolina Courage group stage update

Debinha began her 2019 World Cup with a convincing victory, earning a 3-0 win over Jamaica without start player Marta due to injury. She was not able to get on the scoresheet but nevertheless was a threat to the Jamaican defense.

The midfielder was able to generate two shots on goal while teammate Cristiane earned a hat-trick. Next up was a much more difficult game against Sam Kerr and Australia for their second Group C match.
Although Brazil did suffer a heartbreaking 3-2 defeat, Debinha was one of the brightest stars.. She again was held off the scoresheet but earned an assist in the 38th minute to give her side a 2-0 lead, although, in the end, that would not be enough.
Debinha and company needed to bounce back and end the group stage with a win over Italy in an important match to see who makes it out of group C. Against Italy, Brazil picked up a 1-0 victory over Italy behind Marta’s record-breaking penalty kick in the 74th minute. Although Debinha was neither on the scoresheet or grabbed an assist, she made headlines with an incredible attempt at goal that was saved by goalkeeper Laura Giuliani.
Brazil was able to squeeze out of Group C as a third-place team and will now face Germany in hopes of pulling off an upset in the Round of 16.
