Team Grade:

Before we issue the match grade, let’s chat about what led us to our final conclusion.

The great Bridgeview Bore:

Neither club really felt like they deserved to win on Saturday. It was kind of like watching a race where neither runner went beyond a jog.

Outside of the Zack Steffen Show, not much was happening in the match. The attacks lacked any real threat, and the match just ended up sort of happening. Definitely not a chapter that will be remembered in the Chicago/Columbus rivalry.

A loss with little merit:

While Columbus left with the loss on Saturday, I don’t feel it really hurt the Black & Gold here. With a crippled roster, Crew SC still held their own and left the match without much damage being done.

Hopefully the loss will motivate those standing in for the injured stars to try to prove their worth next week at home when the Crew SC host the defending Eastern Conference Champions, Toronto FC.

Final Thoughts:

  • I feel bad for the people who have to put together a four minute highlight video for matches like this.
  • Steffen shined and the offense stuttered. While the result isn’t ideal, winning on the road in the MLS is never easy – or even required to make the playoffs.

Final Grade: C

A “meh” grade for a “meh” match. Not much to analyze here. Next week will see the return of Higuain and hopefully Columbus can use this as motivation to return to their winning ways at home.

Match Grade: C

Average Season Grade: B-
