Before we issue the match grade for the Columbus Crew SC, we will analyze and grade three key individual performances we feel impacted the match in one way or another.

Mohammed Abu: D

If an Abu plays in a soccer match and nobody notices, was he really there?

So, I know in that fancy intro up there we state that these grades are based on “performances we feel impacted the match in one way or another”, but Abu is taking the flak tonight for doing just the opposite of that. Mohammed Abu might as well have not been on the pitch Saturday night.

Tackles: 0

Interceptions: 0

Opportunities created: 0

With Pipa sidelined for the match, the Crew SC went with a three man midfield to try to compensate, and Abu just didn’t make the most of the opportunity in his 60 minutes he got on the pitch before being (mercifully) subbed off.

Justin Meram: B

Meram continues to be one of the most impressive players for Columbus week in and out. While the Iraqi native was unable to convert anything into points on Saturday, he seemed to be one of the only Crew SC players to have any type of motivation to win.

Zack Steffen: B+

Had Steve Clarke remained the keeper for Columbus, this match could have easily been 2 to 3 goals worse for Crew SC.

While a goal did get past him, Steffen was responsible for 4 saves through the match as well.

The 22 year old keeper is making a name for himself this season, with exceptional saves in almost every match. Even coming out on the losing side, the keeper locked down his first Acura Man of the Match.
