Week 5 Round Up & Week 6 Tips:

Week five was one packed with many many goals. Can we talk about Erick “Cubo” Torres?! The man is on fire!!! He seemed to disappear at his first two years in Houston, but now he is back with a vengeance.

He leads the league in goals and recorded a hat trick in week five vs RBNY which saw him also score 16 MLS Fantasy points! Last season I had the chance to interview him when he was struggling and said to his fans“They motivate me to keep playing hard, and to have the patience to wait for my opportunity to play. I thank them with all my heart!”

“They motivate me to keep playing hard, and to have the patience to wait for my opportunity to play. I thank them with all my heart!”- Erick Torres

Week five also saw Portland continue to slow down with New England Revolution taking a 1-1 draw over at Providence Park. Keep an eye on Lee Nguyen because the American attacker is starting to heat up! Minnesota picked up their first win with Molino and Ramirez reaping the fantasy point rewards, and LA Galaxy continued on a skid in their form with a 4-2 loss to Canadian Giants- Vancouver Whitecaps.

Week six is a tough one because of all the best fantasy teams so far this year are playing away. As we have come to see this MLS season (and in all past seasons really) home teams seem to always have the advantage. I’m looking at you Portland, Houston, and Columbus. Even so, I am sticking with mostly home teams in fantasy as you can see from my lineup below.

MLS Week 6 Must Have Players:

1) Erick Torres

Mr. Roboto himself is setting MLS a blaze and making his name known to Juan Carlos Osorio for a spot in the Gold Cup this summer. Erick Torres won’t stop scoring under the Cubo Whisperer, Wilmer Cabrera, and he will take full advantage of New England this week.

It seems as if Josh Smith picked up an injury vs Portland so NE will be a little weaker in defense this week. Expect Manotas and Elis to feed in some dangerous balls to Torres vs New England this weekend.

2)  Jonathan Spector

Spector, who is Orlando City’s newest addition in the back, has been holding it down so far this season, and expect him to be lights out against RBNY’s struggling attack. Spector has been paired next to the Uruguayan Jose Aja (but injured at the moment) and they have held it down for Orlando City so far.

Orlando just picked up their first loss this past week against Eastern Conference leaders Columbus Crew, but expect them to bounce back this weekend at their home fortress. Spector has scored a sizable 20 points thus far and it doesn’t look like he will be slowing down!

3) Bastian Schweinsteiger

Bastian Schweinsteiger might be a surprise inclusion in must get players for week six, but after a great 10 point debut for him last week there is no question about it. Schweinsteiger put in a full 90 minutes and didn’t look like he missed a step in transitioning from Manchester United. Expect Bastian and Dax McCarty to rock Columbus Crew’s midfield this weekend and maybe even a couple of assists over to Polish striker Nikolic.
