1. Columbus Crew SC gain momentum with 2nd Charleston Challenge Cup win

Columbus Crew SC had a rough 2016. The Black & Gold never built momentum, and missed the playoffs by a mile. Throughout the offseason, the Crew have overhauled their defense, and look to have a much more successful 2017 season.

If the Carolina Challenge Cup is any indicator, Columbus will be a club to keep an eye on this year. The Crew came out of Charleston the clear winners. The only club in the tournament that didn’t suffer a loss, Columbus seemed to be firing on all cylinders.

Designated Player Federico Higuain returned after missing most of 2016 due to injury, and made his presence felt in a big way with 2 goals against Atlanta. Meanwhile, the new Columbus defense only allowed 2 goals against throughout the tournament.

Columbus fans definitely were given a reason to get excited for the 2017 Regular Season, as the Black & Gold raised their 2nd Carolina Challenge Cup in the air after a dominant performance.
