Jo Vetle Rimstad

School: Radford

Position: Defender

With their second pick in the second round, pick #21, 43rd overall, DC picked Defender Jo Vetle Rimstad.

Another young defender placed in a long list of veterans and potential starters, Jo Vetle Rimstad had a strong college career and has shown some potential to be an MLS level defender. Although he hasn’t been challenged too heavily to really have his potential measured well. With height and some speed, Rimstad is likely to go on loan with the Richmond Kickers as well. Unfortunately, late round picks after #30 rarely make a large impact in the MLS, but with the future of Boswell uncertain a year or two from now, having another defender fight for a spot on the team is certainly a great thing.

Overall, I’d consider this draft an A+. Typically MLS teams will strengthen depth in a position or two during the draft, or if they’re lucky, find a single starter.

With the addition of Odoi-Atsem, there is both a starter and increased depth for both fullback positions. This move alone makes the draft a great one in my mind. Goalkeeper depth is never a bad thing, and Klenofsky could have serious value in the future, while Rimstad brings potential competition and depth. I look forward to seeing what other off season moves DC United makes this off-season, but this draft certainly has strengthened the team.
