MLS Multiplex’s Team of the Week for Major League Soccer’s Week 28 was headlined by Kelyn Rowe and Ola Kamara after their outstanding performances.

Week 28 of MLS play saw some great performances around the league as the playoffs inch closer. There were plenty of important match-ups that featured some exciting games. Kelyn Rowe and Ola Kamara headline the MLS Multiplex Team of the Week with their two goal and one assist outings.

The Seattle Sounders, the Portland Timbers, the New England Revolution, the Columbus Crew, and the Houston Dynamo all walked away with three points this week. Each team pulled out the victory and got some important points for the playoff races in their respective conferences.

The Vancouver Whitecaps, the Philadelphia Union, the Montreal Impact, Orlando City SC, and Real Salt Lake were all handed defeats this week. The Chicago Fire, DC United, NYCFC, FC Dallas, the Colorado Rapids, the San Jose Earthquakes, Sporting KC, the LA Galaxy, Toronto FC, and the New York Red Bulls all drew in their matches and came away with one point.

More from MLS Multiplex

GK: Tim Howard (Colorado Rapids)

Howard recorded his second straight clean sheet and was one of only three goalkeepers to hold their opponents scoreless this week. His three save performance helped Colorado come away with a point after a scoreless draw against San Jose. The United States international has been one of MLS’ best goalkeepers since he transferred over this summer.

DEF: Jared Watts (Colorado Rapids)

Partnering Watts with Howard, both put in outstanding performances to hold the Earthquakes goalless. According to Bleacher Report, Jared Watts made six clearances, four interceptions, two tackles and blocked a pair of shots for the Rapids. He was clearly one of the best defenders this week.

DEF: Bobby Boswell (DC United)

Bobby Boswell scored the equalizing goal for DC United in stoppage time against the Chicago Fire. The huge score gave DC a point and was the only goal scored by a defender this week. That alone puts him on the team of the week.

DEF: Raul Rodriguez (Houston Dynamo)

The Houston Dynamo might be one of the worst teams in MLS this season but they came up with the upset 1-0 win over Real Salt Lake this week. Raul Rodriguez helped his side keep a clean sheet in this one with his great defensive play. According to Bleacher Report, he made 12 interceptions and five clearances while holding.

MID: Darren Mattocks (Portland Timbers)

The Timbers are fighting to stay above the red line in the Western Conference and Darren Mattocks helped them do just that in their last match against the Philadelphia Union. He recorded two assists and had a hand in each of the two goals that Portland scored. They won the match 2-1 so it is clear that Darren played a vital role in that victory.

MID: Kelyn Rowe (New England Revolution)

Kelyn Rowe potentially had the best match of week 28 as he recorded two goals and one assist. He had a hand in each of New England’s scores and helped his team to a 3-1 win over the Montreal Impact. The win also put the Revolution above the red line and into the final playoff spot in the East.

MID: Razvan Cocis (Chicago Fire)

The Fire may have the worst record in MLS this season but Razvan Cocis gave his team a result against DC United. He had a hand in each of Chicago’s goals for the night as he scored the opener and later gave an assist to David Accam. It’s a tough year for the Fire but at least the team have been competitive as of late.

MID: Ethan Finlay (Columbus Crew)

Ethan Finlay combined with teammate Ola Kamara to take control of their match against Orlando City SC. Finlay opened the scoring in the 6′ minute and later added two assists to his name. He has a great all-around game and will be looking to continue his play going forward.

FW: Bradley Wright-Phillips (New York Red Bulls)

BWP continues his outstanding season and his two goal performance against Toronto FC gives him a league leading 20. If he continues his form, Wright-Phillips will likely win the MLS Golden Boot this year. His brace now puts him up three goals over David Villa who is the second leading scorer in the league.

FW: Jozy Altidore (Toronto FC)

Jozy Altidore continues to tear things up in MLS play as he is in great form and on fire as of late. He brought his team back from a two goal deficit late in the second half against the New York Red Bulls. Altidore scored in the 68′ minute off of a spectacular free kick and later scored the equalizer in the 86′ minute to complete the comeback and give his team one point to take the top spot in the Eastern Conference.
