The NWSL continues its strong growth across the country. That has been never more apparent in one of the newer towns that league is playing on the pitch.

This season, the league saw two new expansion teams. One is in Boston, and the other is in Denver. The fanbase in Denver has embraced the team and its players thus far in the opening parts of 2026.

With national team stars such as Lindsey Heaps and Carson Pickett, the newest NWSL roster has been celebrated and found a new home in the mountains of Denver.

In the opening match against the Washington Spirit, the Denver Summit fans broke an attendance record

With over 60,000 fans, they broke the single-game attendance record by over 20,000 from last season. It is remarkable and proves the growth and hope of the league is here to stay. The game ended in a 0-0 draw.

In a smaller stadium in Colorado, against the San Diego Wave, the Summit faithful came out on April 25. They had over 15,000 fans to see them play tough against the league-leading Wave 3-2.

Recently, the Governor of Colorado. Jared Polis, declared Monday April 27, "Denver Summit day". He was met at the Colorado State Capitol by several Summit players to celebrate the first women's sports team in the state.

For both the fanbase and leaders of the community to recognize the team is a tremendous step in not just the growth of the NWSL but all women's sports moving forward. The power and marketability of these teams and players is beginning to shine through.

The team will continue to look for ways to promote the players themselves. Carson Pickett has been one of the best defenders in the NWSL during her career.

She now, though, has become a role model for younger kids who share something with her. Pickett, born without a left arm, has sought children who have the same limb difference after the home matches in Colorado.

To be sure, as the season wears on, there will be other memorable moments for a team and a fanbase that is hungry to support their first women's sports team. The Summit is currently in 11th place but still has time to climb the standings and make an impact.

If the team can go on a run and find a way to move up the standings it could be certain the fanbase would welcome a playoff game with much enthusiasm.
