Real Salt Lake initiated the MLS offseason with a calculated move, acquiring the rights to forward Tyler Wolff, previously of Atlanta United, for $50,000 in 2026 General Allocation Money. The 21-year-old, signing through 2026 with options for 2027 and 2028, brings international experience and solid development within the league.

RSL is strengthening its roster during the close season with the aim of going further in the playoffs and cementing its place in the CONCACAF Champions Cup.

Tyler Wolff, on the Rise

At 21, Tyler Wolff's resume shows a player in growth. Brought up by Atlanta United in 2020 after shining in the academy setup, Wolff gathered 53 appearances (19 starts), scoring 6 goals and providing 2 assists in MLS matches.

His last outing in 2024, though modest in all regards, had one important moment: A 97-minute, game-winner against the New York Red Bulls.

Additionally, Tyler played a key role for ATL 2 in MLS NEXT Pro, scoring 7 goals in 20 matches. His development continued in 2022, when he had a valuable experience with Belgian club SK Beveren, making seven appearances that added maturity to his game.

Heritage and style of play

Soccer is in the Wolff blood. He is the son of former USMNT player and noted coach Josh Wolff, and the older brother of Austin FC player Owen Wolff.

This family background is reflected in Tyler's style of play. He's a forward who has a very good vision of the pitch, speed, and intelligence in knowing how to occupy spaces. Without being a natural finisher, his movement, playmaking, and versatility make him an important addition to Real Salt Lake's attack alongside players like Chicho Arango and Anderson Julio.

The impact on Real Salt Lake

The arrival of Tyler Wolff comes at an important moment for Real Salt Lake. Under the leadership of Pablo Mastroeni, RSL finished the regular season of 2024 on a historic campaign: 17 wins, 9 draws, and 13 losses, totaling 59 points, with a new club record of 65 goals scored.

That run, however, was enough for third place in the Western Conference and a return to the 2025 CONCACAF Champions Cup-their first in 2025 since 2015.

Despite the decent performance, the early elimination in the playoffs to Minnesota United on penalties was hard to digest. Management knew the roster needed reinforcements, mainly an attack-minded, versatile, younger player who could bring in different options; Tyler Wolff fits the description to a tee.
