The Washington Spirit is showing why it's one of the most dominant teams in the NWSL this season. In a display of resilience, the Spirit defeated the Utah Royals 1-0 at America First Field, securing their first away win against the Royals. This triumph marks the Spirit's fourth consecutive victory.

The victory against the Royals was particularly significant for several reasons. Firstly, it symbolized the team's second clean sheet of the season, and furthermore, it's the second consecutive sequence of four victories that the Spirit has recorded this season.

The decisive goal in the victory against the Royals was scored by Kate Wiesner. At the 26th-minute mark, after a corner kick that left the ball alive in the box, Wiesner picked up the rebound and, despite being blocked on her first attempt, didn't give up. With a precise long-range shot, she beat goalkeeper McGlynn, securing the three points for the Spirit.

With nine wins in 12 matches, the Spirit has achieved an impressive record for the club. After reaching 27 points, sitting in second place in the league, the team joins a select group of teams in league history that have won nine of their first 12 matches - a feat previously accomplished only by the Seattle Reign in 2014 and the North Carolina Courage in 2018.

Washington Spirit's offensive performance is overwhelming. With 26 goals in 12 matches, the team has already surpassed the goals scored in the combined 2022 and 2023 seasons. The Spirit boasts an impressive firepower, making them one of the most feared and respected teams in the league due to their stellar performance.
