Sporting Kansas City: Time for Redemption
After a rollercoaster-like season, the playoff hopes have slipped out of the grasp of Sporting KC, though one still cannot look past the will of the team to win. With a record of 2 wins, 9 losses, and 5 draws at an early stage of the season, the team was in the middle of a real nightmare that included a streak of seven straight losses. Even so, they were able to show a lot of courage and quality during this season, let's say in the recent final of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup, where, although defeated, they shone.
Erik Thommy is one of the stars. The German midfielder scored his stunning equalizer in the final and now has three goals in the last three matches. He has become a key piece in the attack and is eager to leave his mark in this farewell match. Moreover, Johnny Russell is a club legend, as he is the top scorer of all time in the month of October and also jointly second in the all-time leading scorers list of the club along with Dom Dwyer. Their presence on the pitch will make all the difference in this fight for victory.
The challenge is tall. Sporting need a performance full of grit and passion to pip LAFC and bring in a positive result for the supporters after a torrid season. The supporters, called The Cauldron, promise noise and will back the team in search of one last home win.
LAFC: The Powerhouse
On the other hand, Los Angeles FC enters this match as an absolute giant of the league. While the goal is to seal a spot in the top four of the West Conference, LAFC is ready to leave town with three points. The victory against the New England Revolution during the previous round, which took them to 51 points, equaled their total from last year and increased the squad's confidence.
The team, under the management of head coach Steve Cherundolo, wants to prove a point that it is among the frontrunners for the MLS Cup title. Denis Bouanga leads the team with 26 goals in all competitions and currently enjoys excellent form as he chases the Golden Boot. LAFC arrives at the game with a roster full of stars such as Hugo Lloris, a very well-placed goalkeeper and on the rise in defense, and they wish to maintain their consistency.
One of the biggest strengths of LAFC is the depth in their roster. Even with any possible injuries, they can adjust and push through difficulties. The team would want to be certain with the advantage of playing at home in the playoffs, and a win against Sporting KC would go a long way toward that.
