This Wednesday, July 10, Sporting Kansas City and FC Dallas take to the field in search of a place in the semifinals of American soccer's oldest tournament. It's not just another game, it's an epic battle between two clubs seeking redemption and glory. Sporting Kansas City, despite a difficult MLS season, see the US Open Cup as their best chance of lifting a trophy this year. And believe me, they have the history to do it.

Kansas City, currently sunk to the bottom of the MLS Western Conference, have shown that, in the US Open Cup, they are a team to be feared. With an attack led by Will Agada and his accurate headers, and the creativity of Memo Rodriguez, who not only scores but also hands out assists like someone handing out candy at a birthday party, Sporting have everything to surprise. The defense, however, is a weak point, having conceded 46 goals in 22 games, the second worst record in the league. But if there's one thing we've learned from soccer, it's that in knockout games, anything can happen.

On the other hand, FC Dallas have a slight moral advantage. Although they're not at their best in the MLS either, occupying 11th place in the same conference, the Texan team has players capable of making a difference. Petar Musa, with 10 goals this season, is a natural scorer, while Jesus Ferreira and Sebastien Lletget, with their combinations of goals and assists, bring balance to the Dallas attack. They know that this is a game of life and death and that recent history against Sporting is not in their favor.

Sporting Kansas City have historically come out on top in US Open Cup encounters against FC Dallas. In five meetings in the tournament, Kansas City have come out on top in all of them, without the need for penalty shoot-outs. The latest victory came last Sunday in an MLS match where KC won 3-2, with a sensational goal from Memo Rodriguez in the 82nd minute. This recent result is sure to ignite spirits for Wednesday's clash.

The US Open Cup has been fertile ground for Kansas City, who have lifted the trophy four times and are looking to equal the record with a fifth title. Since 2002, the team has never gone more than two years without reaching at least the quarter-finals, and with an active 14-game unbeaten run at home in the tournament, fans have plenty of reason to believe in another victory.

But we mustn't underestimate FC Dallas. The Texan club, twice champions and four times finalists in the US Open Cup, have history and tradition in the tournament. This year, Dallas advanced with a narrow win over Memphis 901 FC and overcame the Tampa Bay Rowdies to book their place in the quarter-finals. Kansas City's recent win over Dallas in the MLS shouldn't be seen as a definitive omen for the Cup game, as we know that both teams have spared starters in anticipation of the decisive clash.

With Peter Luccin, Dallas' interim coach, making it clear that he is prioritizing the US Open Cup, we can expect a full-strength Texan team. This more aggressive and focused approach could be the key to breaking Dallas' curse against Kansas City in the Open Cup. After all, soccer is made up of moments, and Dallas will have to seize every opportunity to rewrite their history against Sporting.

Sporting Kansas City, for their part, are relying on the strength of their squad and their Open Cup winning tradition. With players like Daniel Salloi, the club's top scorer in the history of the tournament, and Johnny Russell, who always shows up in big games, Kansas City are determined to continue their winning run.

All in all, the clash between Sporting Kansas City and FC Dallas promises to be a soccer spectacle, full of emotion, rivalry and, of course, the relentless pursuit of glory.
