The San Diego Wave has been experiencing a season of highs and lows in the NWSL. With 9 goals scored and 9 goals conceded in 10 games, the team has struggled to find consistency. A clear problem is the lack of positive momentum: the team has yet to secure more than two consecutive victories.

Before the international break, the Wave drew 0-0 against Angel City, a result that highlights the team's difficulty in creating and converting scoring opportunities. The average of less than one goal per game reflects this lack of offensive productivity, which has been a significant obstacle for the team.

Currently, the San Diego Wave is outside the playoff zone, sitting in ninth place with 12 points, tied with Racing Louisville but behind due to goal difference. This precarious position makes the upcoming match against the NWSL leader, Orlando Pride, even more crucial.

The challenge will not be easy. Orlando Pride is on an impressive eight-game unbeaten streak, the best in the league. The historical matchups between the two teams favor the Pride, with three wins, one draw, and only one loss against the Wave.

One positive aspect for the Wave is goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan, who is on the brink of reaching a significant milestone. With 498 saves in the regular season, Sheridan is just two saves away from becoming the third player in NWSL history to reach 500 saves. She also leads the league in shutouts this season, with four clean sheets. Her presence in goal provides a solid foundation for the team.

However, to overcome Orlando Pride, the San Diego Wave will need more than just a strong defense. It will be crucial for the team to improve its attacking efficiency and convert the few chances it creates into goals. The international break may have offered an opportunity for tactical adjustments and improvements in finishing.

Facing the league leader at Snapdragon Stadium could be a turning point. A victory against Orlando Pride would not only provide a significant morale boost but could also mark the beginning of a turnaround in the Wave's season.
