For the Thorns, this season has been marked by an impressive variety of goal scorers, with ten different players finding the back of the net, including league leader Sophia Smith. The Portland Thorns are determined to regain their winning streak after the two-week international break. In 11 matches during the 2024 campaign, the team has shown remarkable offensive capability, surpassed only by the Washington Spirit and Kansas City Current in terms of attacking efficiency. Since their 2-0 loss to the Courage in Cary, NC, the Thorns have secured six wins and one loss, while the Courage have won only twice and lost five matches.

In addition to their strong attack, the Thorns' defense has also significantly improved throughout the season. The team ranks among the top three in the league in several defensive categories, including interceptions per game (12.7), possessions gained in the final third (7.6), and successful tackles per game (14.5). This balance between offense and defense has been crucial to the team's success.

The recent setback against the Orlando Pride, which ended the Thorns' six-game winning streak, served as a reminder of the need to maintain consistency. Currently, the Portland Thorns sit in fourth place in the league with 19 points, and each match is essential to stay in the playoff zone.

Sophia Smith, in addition to being the team's top scorer with eight goals, also stands out defensively with 11 tackles, showcasing her versatility and importance to the team. However, the defensive highlight goes to midfielders Samantha Coffey and Marie Müller, who rank in the top 5 in the league for tackles, solidifying Portland's defensive strength.

This Saturday, the expectation is high to see if the Portland Thorns can rekindle their winning streak and put on a show for the fans on Pride Night.
