Orlando Pride enjoys moment of excellence and breaks US record
Orlando Pride is experiencing an exceptional moment. Leading the NWSL with 27 points, three more than Washington Spirit, the Florida team stands out as one of the unbeaten teams in the competition, alongside Kansas City. With eight wins and three draws in 11 games, the numbers highlight the team's dominance in this early season.
To crown this moment, Pride set a new record for consecutive wins in the top women's league in the United States: eight in a row. And the most opportune moment to achieve this historic mark was against Portland Thorns, in an exciting 2-1 victory at the Inter&Co Stadium, thus breaking the opponents' unbeaten streak of six games. Interestingly, the old record belonged to Thorns themselves, with seven wins, achieved in 2014.

All of this happened under the command of Barbra Banda, who scored both goals in the victory, one of them with a beautiful pass from Marta, the Brazilian queen, who had excellent vision to let the attacker dribble inside the box and find the back of the net. Banda is the top scorer in the NWSL, with eight goals in just seven games played, an impressive average of 1.14 goals per game.
Although there is still a long way to go, the triumph over the Thorns demonstrates the strength and determination of Orlando Pride, which could achieve great heights this season. As Marta herself said: "It's something we dream of from the beginning. We work hard. We never give up; I never give up in my life, so I will never give up dreaming of this situation. You look back and see everyone chasing us, so we just have to run faster."
