Orlando City rejects Red Star Belgrade's million-dollar bid for Facu Torres
Brace yourselves, because the latest news on the football market promises to be something to talk about. Orlando City have rejected an offer of US$8 million from Red Star Belgrade for Facu Torres, the talented Uruguayan striker who has been shining in Major League Soccer (MLS). It seems that the Lions are not willing to give up their star player so easily
Facundo Torres, or simply Facu, is only 24 years old and has already amassed a career worthy of a veteran. The youngster began his career with Uruguay's traditional club Peñarol, where he quickly made a name for himself with his left-footed ability and precise finishing. In 2020, at the age of 20, Torres was already showing signs that he was destined for great things, scoring six goals and providing seven assists in 36 games. And that wasn't even his best version yet.

It was in 2021 that Facu Torres really caught the eye, being one of Peñarol's great revelations in winning the Uruguayan league and in their impressive run to the semifinals of the Copa Sudamericana. His ability to dribble down the left flank, his dexterity with his left foot and his ability to hit the ball were undeniable. It didn't take long for the call-ups to the Uruguayan national team to arrive, and it was clear that he would soon leave the country for an advantageous offer. Orlando City came out on top, shelling out US$9 million to bring the South American talent to the MLS.
Since then, Facu Torres has been a key part of the Lions' squad. This season, he has made 20 MLS appearances, starting in 19 of them. So far, he has scored six goals and provided three assists. Facu has a strong presence, especially on the left side of the pitch, and he doesn't limit himself to attacking, helping to recover the ball as well as being an excellent penalty taker. His market value, estimated at 14 million euros, reflects his importance and talent.
Now, Red Star Belgrade have tried their luck with an offer of US$8 million, but Orlando City have turned them down. The decision may seem surprising, but it makes perfect sense when you look at the bigger picture. Facu Torres has a contract with the Lions until the end of 2026, and his value goes beyond numbers: he is a key player in the team, with potential for growth and a positive influence on and off the pitch. In fact, that was the price at which the team acquired the Uruguayan. If you look at it, it doesn't make sense, especially as he's a young player who can still develop.
This refusal not only reaffirms Facu's importance to Orlando City, but also sends a clear message to the market: the MLS is increasingly competitive and its clubs are not willing to lose their top talents for any price. Soccer in the United States has evolved, and the presence of players like Facu Torres only strengthens this trend.
