New York City FC is riding high after an impressive 5-1 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes, their biggest win of the season so far. The result boosts the team's morale. On the other hand, the Columbus Crew had a bitter taste from their 3-0 loss to Pachuca in the Concacaf Champions Cup final.

But now, it’s a new chapter. The focus for both NYCFC and the Crew shifts to the 19th round of the MLS, where they will face off at Yankee Stadium. The Crew returns to action determined to redeem themselves. Head coach Wilfried Nancy has done a remarkable job with the team, utilizing a 3-4-3 tactical system that expands the field and creates spaces for attacks, although this formation demands a lot from the fullbacks, who can be exploited in quick counterattacks.

Nick Cushing, NYCFC’s head coach, has also experimented with a similar system this season but generally prefers the 4-3-3 formation. This tactical variation promises an exciting strategic battle between the two sides on Friday, July 14.

NYCFC's Santiago Rodríguez is a key player to watch. At 24 years old, he is on track for his best season since joining the team in 2021, with six goals and five assists in 16 matches in 2024. On the Columbus Crew side, Diego Rossi stands out, leading the team with four goals and being crucial in the midfield.

In the Eastern Conference standings, NYCFC is in third place with 29 points, while the Columbus Crew is in seventh place with 24 points. This direct confrontation promises to be decisive for both teams, as the home team aims to consolidate their position at the top of the table, while the Black & Gold seek a better position in the championship.
