When Marco Reus announced that he would be leaving Borussia Dortmund, many wondered what the next step would be for the German star. The answer came quickly and unexpectedly: Los Angeles Galaxy. In a decision that took many by surprise, Reus opted to cross the Atlantic and take on the challenge of the MLS, leaving the Bundesliga and Europe behind. What motivated this choice? Simple: the desire to make history on a new continent.

In his first press conference as a Galaxy player, Reus was emphatic in saying that the decision wasn't difficult: “When I decided not to play for Borussia Dortmund anymore, I thought, 'OK, what can I do? The decision not to play in Europe or the Bundesliga was already made. The first contact was in May with Galaxy and Will Kuntz, and I didn't need that long to decide. The first impressions were very good, as were the first conversations with the coach. Everything flowed naturally,” Reus revealed, showing that his move to Los Angeles was more a heartbeat than a strategic move.

And it's not just the glamor of Los Angeles that seduced the player. Reus is a team player, and that was clear when he spoke about the opportunity to play alongside Riqui Puig, another big name in the Galaxy squad. “You can immediately see the coach from the Barcelona school. That's going to be good, us together. But it's important to remember that it's not just me or Riqui. We have a lot of good players in this team. You can only win a championship together, not alone. It's important that we're united. It doesn't matter if you have bad times or good times, it's unity that brings titles,” said Reus, already aware of what the team needs to achieve glory.

But anyone who thinks that Reus is only in the MLS to enjoy the last few years of his career is mistaken. The German has blood in his eyes and made it clear that his goal is to take the Galaxy back to the top, something the fans have been waiting for for a decade. “Of course I'm not the youngest guy anymore, but I want to help the younger players because they're growing and improving every day. The little things in soccer are very important, how you prepare for the game, after the game. So, of course, the goal of this club is to win the league, to be successful and to be with the organization and the club. It's been 10 years since we won the championship, so the time is now. I'm ready and I think the team is ready. We're ready,” said Reus, without hesitation.

This confidence is not for nothing. Reus has a CV that speaks for itself, and his arrival at the Galaxy represents not only a coach's gain, but also a morale boost for a team. Greg Vanney, the team's coach, also made no secret of his excitement at the German's arrival. “I've been in the league long enough to know that when you hear names like Marco, there's still a long process before things really come together. But when we started talking and looking at the possibilities, it was clear that he would be a key player for us,” said Vanney, visibly satisfied with the outcome of the deal.

And if it's up to Reus, the LA Galaxy have everything it takes to be protagonists in the MLS once again. With a talented and motivated squad, and a strong leader like Reus at the helm, the Los Angeles side look set to write a new chapter in their history. The season promises to be long and full of challenges, but, as Reus said, “the time is now”.
