Kansas City Current's feat of dominating the Houston Dash 2-0 has to be celebrated, with Temwa Chawinga putting on a show. The striker, who had already been shining this season, scored twice in three minutes, showing why she is the NWSL's top scorer in 2024.

The crowd packed the CPKC Stadium for the eighth time in a row, creating an electric atmosphere that propelled Current to break an impressive record: 17 games unbeaten, a feat that dates back to the end of last season. Vlatko Andonovski's team not only won, but showed a resilience and determination that are the hallmark of champions. Chawinga shone like a true star, scoring his 11th goal of the season and becoming the club's leading scorer in a single campaign.

The game began with Kansas City pressing relentlessly. The first half was a show of strength, with 17 shots on goal and an impeccable performance from Houston goalkeeper Jane Campbell, who made six spectacular saves. With each save from Campbell, Current's frustration grew, but the team remained calm and kept looking for the goal

In the 77th minute, the Houston Dash's resistance finally gave way. Rodriguez launched a long ball to Chawinga, who outpaced the opposing defense and scored the first goal of the night. It was an explosion of joy in the stadium, but Chawinga's show didn't stop there. Three minutes later, she took advantage of a defensive error by the Dash, dribbled past the goalkeeper and sent the ball into the back of the net, sealing the victory.

Houston had their chances, especially with Michelle Alozie and Diana Ordóñez, but couldn't convert. Kansas City's defense was insurmountable, with Adrianna Franch defending everything that came her way. The Dash showed a valiant defensive performance, with Paige Nielsen and Sophie Schmidt standing out, but lacked the firepower to stand up to Current's relentless attack.

This win not only keeps Kansas City Current at the top of the table, but also sends a clear message to their opponents: this team is a winning machine, with a cohesion and fighting spirit that few can match. And with their next match against Orlando Pride, another undefeated NWSL giant, we can expect another spectacle.

For the Houston Dash, the defeat exposes weaknesses that need to be corrected quickly. The team has talent, but needs more cohesion and effectiveness in attack. The coach will need to adjust his strategy and work on his finishing if he wants to see his team move up the table. Kansas City Current, on the other hand, are continuing their glorious run with the confidence that they can win it all this season. Underestimating this team is a mistake no one can afford to make.
