Kansas City Current remain unbeaten in 13 games after drawing with Chicago Red Stars and are looking to keep the streak going in their next match

In a matchup between playoff zone teams, the Kansas City Current drew 2-2 against the Chicago Red Stars. The result at CPKC Stadium theoretically favored the home team, helping them to stay at the top of the NWSL standings. However, there's a warning that they could lose their position to competitors Orlando Pride and Washington Spirit. Kansas City managed to turn the game in their favor with goals from Bia Zaneratto and Temwa Chawinga, but the equalizer came in stoppage time, something that hadn't happened to Vlatko Andonovski's team since May 18.

The Current pushed hard for the three points, forcing goalkeeper Naeher to make at least five saves from their seven shots on goal. Despite their efforts, it wasn't their night to win. "Overall, I’m proud of the team, and they didn’t stop fighting. Even after the second goal, they continued pressing and looking for the opportunity to win the game, and that’s all you can ask of them," said coach Vlatko.

Indeed, Kansas City fans can be pleased with the team's impressive streak, reaching an exceptional 15-game unbeaten run. This mark also stands out in NWSL history, with the Current being the second team in the league's history to achieve this feat.

Kansas City could reach the longest streak in the league if they maintain their unbeaten run against the Portland Thorns at Providence Park, a clash between the best offense and the fifth team with the fewest goals conceded in the league. The Current hopes to rely on their offensive power to extend the streak and reach 14 unbeaten games in 2024, especially with Temwa Chawinga, Bia Zaneratto, and DiBernardo shining on the field to secure a positive result for the league leaders.

The Kansas City team has the opportunity to write a new chapter in NWSL history. With a challenging matchup ahead, the determination and quality of their players will be crucial to continue this impressive unbeaten streak.
