The game started with a scare for the Current when the Seattle Reign took a 2-1 lead in the first half. However, defender Lauren equalized at the end of the first half, scoring her first NWSL goal after a deflection by Bia Zaneratto on an Izzy Rodriguez corner kick. This goal was not only crucial for the tie but also significant, as it made Lauren the 16th Current player to score in the 2024 season, extending the team's record for the most different scorers in a single NWSL season.

Temwa Chawinga, who assisted DiBernardo in the second half, put Kansas City Current in the lead for good. Chawinga also shone with two goals, boosting the team's offensive prowess at home.

Kansas City has scored at least four goals in four of the six games at CPKC Stadium this season. This was the third game of the season in which the Current scored five goals, and the team now averages 3.84 goals per game at home. With 31 goals in the first 12 games of 2024, the Current set a new club record for the most goals in a season, surpassing the previous record set in 2023.

The victory not only reaffirms Kansas City Current's standout position in the NWSL but also places the team in a favorable position ahead of their home match against the Chicago Red Stars. With the same 28 points as the Orlando Pride, the Current leads the table thanks to a superior goal difference. However, they need to stay vigilant on defense, as they concede an average of 0.7 goals per game, to maintain their top spot in the playoff zone.
