The Houston Dynamo have made an audacious move in the transfer market by signing Argentine striker Ezequiel Ponce from AEK Athens, Greece, in a deal that has become the biggest in the club's history. Aged 27, Ponce arrives to fill a Designated Player vacancy and has a contract until June 2027, with an option to extend until 2028.

Ponce's arrival is renewed hope for the Dynamo, who have scored just 20 goals this season, the fewest in the Western Conference. The expectation is that the new arrival will help improve this statistic and strengthen the team's attack, which already includes talented midfielders Héctor Herrera and Coco Carrasquilla. The aim is to build on last season's success, when the team reached the Western Conference final and won the US Cup.

Ponce brings with him a wealth of experience in top-level competitions. Last season, he scored 14 goals in 29 games, almost a goal a game. Capable of playing both out wide and centrally, the Argentine is a key player in attack and should fit perfectly into the Dynamo's tactical scheme.

Houston Dynamo general manager Pat Onstad expressed his excitement at the signing, highlighting the exhaustive global search for a new first-choice striker: "Ezequiel was our number one target. He has experience scoring goals in the world's top competitions, fits perfectly into our playing model and his character and professionalism are exemplary," Onstad said in a statement.

Ponce will be available to make his debut for the team as soon as the MLS secondary transfer window opens on July 18. The expectation surrounding his debut is high, especially considering the Dynamo's urgent need to improve their attacking performance.

The Houston Dynamo, currently in seventh place in the Western Conference with 23 points, hope that Ponce's arrival will mark the start of an upward phase in the league. The signing of the Argentine striker is a clear sign that the club is determined to evolve in order to reach new heights in the MLS.
