Chicago Red Stars make history at Wrigley Field against Bay FC

This Saturday, June 8, the Chicago Red Stars will write a new chapter in their history by playing a match at Wrigley Field, home of the Chicago Cubs. This is not just any NWSL game; it is a historic event as it will be the first time a professional women's soccer match has been held at this stadium since 1944.

The match against Bay FC not only represents a chance for victory for the Red Stars but also the opportunity to break the NWSL attendance record. Currently, the record is 32,066 spectators, set in the match between San Diego Wave and Kansas City Current. In a game filled with emotions, there is a significant possibility that the Red Stars could attract a large crowd, potentially breaking the league's current record.

The game also highlights the excellent performance of defender Sam Staab, who was named to the NWSL May Best XI by Amazon Prime. Staab is a starter for the team and has been highly effective in ball recovery. Her presence will be crucial for the team, which also needs a positive result.

Currently, the Chicago Red Stars are in sixth place in the NWSL with 16 points, within the playoff zone. However, the team needs to improve its defense, as they have conceded the same number of goals they have scored: 15. Facing Bay FC, which has not won away from home since March, offers an opportunity to consolidate their playoff position and return to winning ways after two league games without a victory.
