Can LAFC handle Houston Dynamo's playoff push without their top players?
The tussle between Los Angeles FC and Houston Dynamo could be one of the important matches this season, especially at a moment when both teams are at a juncture. While LAFC hopes to seal its place near the top of the Western Conference, Houston Dynamo is in the battle for a playoff place after last week's vital victory over LAFC.

LAFC: Battling Adversity Without Their Stars
Head coach Steve Cherundolo knew the international break was going to further complicate things for his side, but never thought the absence of six key players would make things uphill for them. Denis Bouanga, Mateusz Bogusz, and Cristian Olivera, among others, have been called to duty with their respective national teams, leaving LAFC to face Dynamo once again with limited options. But Cherundolo sounded confident nonetheless, saying that the fielded team would be "good enough to win."
The big question, however, is how they replace the missing firepower. Veterans Olivier Giroud and Kei Kamara are expected to be crucial to the team's hopes of keeping them competitive enough for an away win. On the other hand, LAFC's defense has been very solid of late and let in only three goals in their last six away games. If they can keep in that form, they might be able to nullify Dynamo's attack and come away with a positive result.
Houston Dynamo: A Rising Force
Houston Dynamo comes fresh off an important 2-0 win against LAFC, with debut goals from forwards Ezequiel Ponce and Lawrence Ennali. Unfortunately, Ennali suffered an injury at the end of the game and will be unavailable for the return match at home. Coach Ben Olsen has depth in his squad and knows a win at Shell Energy Stadium could be decisive for their playoff push.
Dynamo's recent consistency, especially with Ibrahim Aliyu being one of the standout team players, netting six goals and providing five assists, has given Latif Blessing an ever-present attacking threat. Houston's challenge is repeating the midfield dominance they had in the last game, a fact that LAFC midfielder Timmy Tillman confessed was the turning point in the game.
Expectations and Possible Scenarios
A lot is at stake for both teams. LAFC wants to secure home-field advantage in the playoffs, so an away win against Dynamo would be a big step in that direction. In any case, absences could keep the team from fully expressing Cherundolo's game plan. LAFC has maintained six away unbeaten records, adding to the confidence levels despite missing the key players.
On the contrary, Dynamo are in the heart of the playoff hot-seat. With five of the next eight games coming at home, Houston knows that every point will be important. Shell Energy Stadium needs to become a fortress if the team wants to secure their spot for the postseason.
Expected Outcome
Saturday's matchup certainly has all the ingredients to be one of the standout matches of the weekend. Even without their stars in tow, LAFC has a solid backline and is coming into the match with momentum from a strong away record, but the Dynamo have home turf going for them and are on the rise in the standings with key players ready to make a difference.
The ultimate question will be, will LAFC, without its top men, be able to withstand the pressure from Dynamo, or will Houston seize the opportunity and take three more critical points in this final stretch of the season?
