In the sport of soccer, not every footballer is destined to achieve the top; many cases end up wandering from club to club, trying to get minutes. Some of them finally reach that club, but outside of what they’ve hoped.

Recently, we found out that Tomas Aviles was cut from his loan with CF Montreal, and another former Inter Miami player is being released.

With that said, the Philadelphia Union made an official announcement that they were waiving one of their team’s veteran players.

Philadelphia Union Waives Olivier Mbaizo

According to the Philadelphia Union’s website, the club announced that it has waived defender Olivier Mbaizo, who was under contract through the 2026 Major League Soccer season.

"We want to thank Olivier for his time spent with the club,” said Philadelphia Union Sporting Director Jon Scheer. “We are grateful for his dedication, professionalism, and impact on the organization and wish him all the best going forward.”

Olivier Mbaizo signed with the Union in 2018 after spending time in the club’s second team. During his time at MLS, the 28-year-old defender played 156 games (96 starts) without scoring goals but delivered 13 assists.

Also, Mbaizo appeared in and started six MLS Cup Playoff encounters, while winning two Supporters’ Shield trophies with the Philadelphia Union.

The truth is that the former Union Sportive de Douala player has played only one game this season, thus he was not called up for the rest of the season.

At one time, Mbaizo was an instrumental part of the Union's defense. However, as the seasons progressed, the coaching staff began favoring players who demonstrated superior tactical awareness and physicality, aiming to elevate the team's overall performance.

It’s going to be an uphill battle to find a new club, but he has the experience and the level to integrate rosters in the MLS or even in lower-level leagues.
